Project Z is a first-person, zombie shooter game.
It’s co-operative, it’s free to play.
But it’s set in World War II, and you’re stranded on an island full of zombies that the Nazis have experimented on.
It certainly isn’t the first time we’ve done this in a video game,
But what makes it unique is the gritty and realistic atmosphere.
And an emphasis on finding things and building, somewhat similar to “Fallout 4’s” settlement building system.
So, basically, there’s like a whole center, and as you go out and conquer areas, it’s going to really help and influence the different areas that you’ll jump into.
And in terms of cooperative play, it could probably make things pretty interesting.
Of course, it will also have a more traditional wave-based survival mode, and you know how cool and simple that looks.
We are free to play nice, clean, fun.
We don’t know too much about monetization yet or how well it will work.
But if you’re into Nazi zombie-style stuff but might also be into something more like “Left 4 Dead” with a dash of “Fallout” building, “Project Z” looks promising.

It’s got great zombie shooter overall, and this “Requisition” game doesn’t feel like a slouch.

But with a greater emphasis on scavenging and crafting improvised items to survive and survive in an environment.
Like, yes, there are guns, but creative crafting has a huge advantage.
Like taping two axes together, or strapping some kitchen knives to the end of a chair and just killing some zombies.
It feels great, and since it’s in VR, you’re doing it all with your hands, physically climbing things, gripping stuff and putting stuff together.
I hope it tastes as good as it looks.
Now, this actually sounds like a fun and creative idea with an added PvP and sandbox mode if you want to try something more traditional.
But we like the basic setup.

Showa American Story is a weird indie project we’ve been talking about for a while (laughs).
And as you can see on the screen here, it’s pretty wild.
It’s like this weird mashup of a post-apocalyptic, “Devil May Cry”, lollipop, chainsaw, zombie-killing, adventure game with a really unique hook.
You play this game as a girl who has risen from the dead and is a badass fighter, but she’s based in an
America that’s been taken over by the Japanese after World War II.
But the American stronghold is riddled with zombies.
So it’s up to you to make cool combos and use machine guns to kill them all.
This game looks super over-the-top in all the right ways.
It might even look a bit torn.
It just looks a little different and we can’t wait to try something different.
And it has zombies, so, points for that.

4. No More Room in Hell 2
The original “No More Room in Hell” was a source mod.
It was an incredibly fun and playable co-op zombie shooter with a very dark atmosphere.
But also heavily inspired by zombie material, especially George Romero.
You know, for the legend that he is now.
With “No More Room in Hell 2” it seems like they really are doing everything right.
It’s about survival, in up to eight-player co-op, with endless zombies coming at you.
But it will require teamwork and coordination in very large maps that feature some randomly generated elements and procedural elements to keep you on your toes.
If that does sound familiar to similar games, yeah, but there’s a good emphasis on scavenging and making your own items.
And so far visually it also looks pretty good too.
Hell yeah, let’s go!

Which had a lot of us wondering if it was actually real, but as more and more gameplay snippets emerge, it certainly seems like it’s a real game.
It sounds like a pretty small, independent project, but it’s pretty impressive to look at.
It’s Unreal Engine 5, and there’s a huge emphasis on gore, dismembering zombies in first person, zombie weight and physics, and of course, it has tons and tons of detail on these gross, grotesque creatures.
The more they tease this game, the better and better it looks.
‘Cause, like we said, at first it looked like a weird prototype, but its latest showings have looked a bit more impressive.
We still need to see a pretty lengthy gameplay trailer to understand exactly what’s going on, but just a good, gritty, chunky, dirty, first-person zombie shooter is something we’d definitely like to see.
Because we talk a lot about co-op shooters and zombie hoards in this article, but how about an element of good old fashioned survival horror?

Daymare 1994 Sandcastle is the follow-up to “Daymare 1998”.
The Daymare 1998 was a truly awesome indie experience, heavily inspired by the classic “Resident Evil 2” Raccoon City Wrath.
And it was just a good solid third person shooter with survival horror elements and good scary scares and atmosphere.
And so what they’re doing here, with “Daymare: 1994 Sandcastles,” is going for a bit of a prequel vibe.
Government spies are involved and you are working for a secret organization where you have been dropped in locations to evade and search.
The umbrella gives off too much of the soldier vibes, but it works perfectly for this type of thing.

7. Aftermath
The Aftermath was revealed at a gaming live stream event, and the original trailer really blew us away.
We’ve been thinking about it ever since.
In it, you play as Charlie Grey, an astronaut who gets caught up in the events of this world which is an absolute mess and full of zombies.
You’re searching for your sister and everything looks really chaotic and scary.
As you can see, this is very much a third person zombie shooter where you are killing hordes.
But it seems to have a bit more of an artistic storytelling vibe to it, a lot more atmosphere and music and scary visuals.
This is something we are totally into and we can use it as much as possible in our zombie games.
In the opening trailer, you might not realize that there are zombies but there is definitely some zombie killing going on here.

SurrounDead is an open world survival game with a really cool art style.
Now, it was actually created from a single developer, and it’s in early access.
And so far people have been really digging into it.
Now instead of another competitive world, what’s refreshing about it is that it’s a classic chill survival game.
In this game, you just fight zombies, use guns and melee weapons, you find stuff, you trade, and you move through small areas to survive.
And actually build things, you know?
There’s lots of loot, and limited ammo which makes you pay more attention and gives it a bit of a survival horror element,
Which we definitely love.
And zombies are, you know, right on their own but if you’re surrounded or facing off against something then fight or flight is going to start.
This is where things can get really sweaty.
Now again, it’s in Early Access,
So it doesn’t have a lot of content, but what it does show a lot of promise.
Check social media or Steam reviews. People are really excited to see where this goes next.
Now we want to do more, see more,
Maybe even a little co-op? But if you love survival and you love building,
But, you want something that has just a slightly different vibe, “Surrounded” can be a great fit.

9. Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 is good for you if you like zombies and open world adventures.
Now, I’m still processing, I’m not sure if I like it more than the first game
But there are tons of cool zombies to kill.
There are tons of cool moves and weapons to upgrade and learn to improve your zombie-killing skills in a very brutal and interesting world.
It’s actually really well developed. Not to mention the fact that you can play it co-operatively with friends so you can run, park around town, kill zombies, melee, hook up, do your thing.
And that’s not all, we expect the developers to add a lot more content in the years to come.
If they support it anywhere near as much as they did with the first game, great things are going to come of it if you haven’t played it yet.
It’s on all major platforms and if you haven’t checked it out, you should.

This “Dead Space” inspired, third person, action-adventure, survival horror-type game looks absolutely terrifying.
You were fighting against ghastly, terrifying undead-looking creature friends who once appeared to be human.
And it’s all very unfortunate, but also nice and nasty.
If you’ve played any of the “Dead Space” games that this game isn’t ashamed to admit they’re inspired by, expect lots of gore and cool ways to get these things out, but also a good amount of tension.
With survival horror games, things aren’t always easy and you aren’t always this mighty badass who crushes your way through hordes of enemies.
Sometimes one of these infidels can take you out and that’s what makes these games tense and enjoyable.
The scary tension and survival aspect seem to be elements.
To be honest, we love games like this.
